Off topic, but going on what Dreempup said...
I was going to get a couple of female mice a while back and the store I went to had all kinds of small animals out on display, but no mice. So I was going to just leave, but we asked anyway.
They come back with a five gallon tank that had probably about 25-30 white mice in it. I told them "Forget it." and left. I felt terrible for those poor things, but spending the money on them would have been a waste. (Pet store gets money, says "Well, we don't have to change". I told them I didn't want feeder mice and they said "Oh, but these are pet ones and feeder ones." I walked out. (I ended up not getting anything at all due to the people at the next place (Petsmart) treating me like I was an idiot.)
Back on topic: Believe it or not, but most slaughterhouses aren't there to torment the animals. Usually they are killed in the quickest, most humane way possible. (A lot of people go "OMG! They are still moving! Argh!" but (in most cases) it's just their nerves reacting to being dead.)
I know a person that breeds and raises pigs and they love them to death, but they know that the pigs aren't gonna be around forever and make them as comfortable as possible while they are there. (Even giving them old bowling balls to play with)
I suppose that it depends on where you come from and what type of environment you grew up in as to whether it bothers you or not.
(I mean, there ARE worse ways to kill a hog. One of them is shooting it, which doesn't always get the job done and you have to do it again until they die. Then there is the age old method of bashing them over the head with a sledgehammer. So throat slitting IS pretty humane. (You can't shoot any drugs into them to knock them out because then whoever ate the resulting meat would ingest the drugs as well.)

Heck, don't get me wrong, I am totally against animal abuse, but why does killing cows and stuff become acceptable just because they are bred for that purpose? I'm not vegitarian, but we could also say we can kill cats and dogs because they are bred for the purpose of being pets. But people would object because they are all soft and fluffy. We were doing this as a topic for RS recently. Lots of interesting information. Animals testing in labs... The videos I had to watch... People don't even know the correct number of animals killed because rats and mice 'aren't worth counting'. I don't believe in vegitarianism for a second. No offense to anyone who is one. Humans are naturally omnivourous, and we can see this just by looking at our teeth - For chewing vegetables and greenery, to tearing meat. If one person doesn't eat beef, a farmer isn't going to think 'I won't kill this cow. She can live a nice life on the farm'. It will be killed too, and there's nothing you can do about it. It isn't only meat for humans that is made when they kill those things, so they won't let it go to waste. Seemes pointless to me. And please don't preach about how 'If every human didn't eat meat, no animals would have to be killed', 'cause lets face it, that's never gonna happen. Well put, I couldn't agree more. I personally believe that saying mice and rats can be killed just because they were bred for that purpose is a load of crap. Just because they were bred to be cruelly dunked in a mass of boiling shampoo and die that way doesn't mean they don't feel ANY less pain than any other animal, or deserve to die! Heck, I could start breeding HUMANS and then slay them by forcing them to drink poisons, but acid in their eyes, do live autopsy on them, etc. you know, all the stuff that goes on in these supposedly 'humane' labs. But hey, they're BRED for that purpose so that justifies it, right?! No, it doesn't. Animals live not to serve the purpose of involentary suffering and cruelty just so some people can get some new makeup slapped on their face. Period. And for what Kishi Kat said, I agree with you on the animal slaughter part and everything. To me, watching an animal die in any way is just... blah, it makes me upset. Watching blood drain out of an animal is no laughing matter. However, I do agree that it is a more humane way of killing the creature. It is numb or unconscious, both or either one, {whatever stunned really means} and so it's better than shooting the animal seven times and then waiting for it to die while it still suffers. I don't want any animals to die. But then again, life costs a LOT of death. If we didn't kill... we would die. Simple. I've been watching too much Watership Down. I'm obsessed with it so let's have a quote in here. Yay. <3 Basically, death comes to all. Nobody can live a 'death-free life'. Plants are alive too, y'know. Besides, I heard that plants are alive even weeks after they've been plucked, so they chances are to all those who say they're living without death, you're eating living beings! So don't you dare to tell me that...

I used to get bullied for my views on animal rights (I'm a strict veggie and crazy about animals) but now it's just a few jerky year 8 guys and conversations like this:
Jerky Year 8 Guy: Hey did you see the foxhunt in Castlemorris last night? They killed 5 foxes! Me: No, did you see the anti-fur protest in Haverfordwest last night? They killed 10 fashion models!
Sorry, I just had to tell someone about that XD

Ha ha... yeah, go Razorbill =P
Yes, onto hunting. Hunting for sport is terrible and not needed. Animals don't deserve to be put to death for no reason, even if it is just a prick of pain. What have they ever done to us? NOTHING! Absolutely nothing! I don't even think its okay to hunt the animals that invade on people's property and destroy they're things. How are they supposed ot know whats wrong from right? Do you think their mothers taught them that it was wrong to lie, cheat, steal, or trick others? They weren't raised the way we were. They were raised based on survival. Thats actually a perfect oppisite of us. I think that we have learned to be so righteous that we'll punish anything for doing anything that we suspect (or in our perspective) is wrong, even if its not their fault or they didn't do it. And thats what we do to animals. I am very ashamed of what humans have come to be.
I was gonna say something else, but I forgot...

You know about rabbit plants for meat? Prolly the worst plants ever. They can't use the snap the neck technique because rabbits are hard to handle (especcially when they've been locked in a way overcrowded cage there whole life and never have been handled before) and large (most meat rabbits get big). often they are shot with pellet guns.

On the subject of hunting, back when hunting was legal, people used to say the reason people hunt was because foxes kill chickens. But people kill chickens too, so why do foxes have to suffer? Why can't they kill people instead (lol joking but I'm still strongly against hunting) And what do chickens have to do with it anyway? Enough are dying because of the bird flu culling so it's not fair to blame it all on wild animals.

Because the fox gets to eat the chicken and not the people.

good point Kishi If a fox killed a rabbit and a wolf was nearby, the wolf would proboly kill the fox. Not that different I'm not saying I don't agree with you. I think that if they REALLY want to prevent foxes or wolves or whatever, they should build stronger fences.

That actually reminds me of this thing a neighbor gave my sister. It was small cat figurine and the fur creeped me out. It looked too real and felt like real fur. I was freaked out with the decoration. I couldn't tell if that was real cat skin and fur they used or some other animal, or if was simplily very realistic fake fur. The eyes and nose were fake. Thankfully we got rid of it. One of my sister's friends at the time wanted it and we had no hesitation getting rid of it. That was one creepy decoration....

They make stuff like that from rabbit fur usually... I've seen them on sale at the mall.

Yes, most of it is rabbit fur from the places that slaughter them for meat. The fur is a byproduct. (Much like leather and cattle)
